Yeah, this is the page where someone tries to convince you that working at AOL is the best possible future for you. So let's get started shall we...

If you are looking to work with the most creative, hard-working, smart, and resourceful people in the business of interactive design, development, and project management, this is a fantastic place to be.

Here in AOL Programming we create innovative and useful FREE websites for millions of loyal users. Many of our websites are in the top 3 of their respective categories (and some are #1). We're talking lots of eyeballs on your work here. Millions and millions of users seeing just how brilliant you are and what you bring to the table. Crazy numbers. If you want to raise your game this could be the right fit for you.

The teams in Dulles, VA and our NYC headquarters want to win big. We have shown this by building an entire new business separate from the "old AOL" that comes to mind when you see those three letters in a row. The company is changing rapidly and we want people who want to be a part of this new era we're forging in real-time. We are almost always seeking talented project managers, ui designers, web designers, web developers, engineers, qa folks, flash developers, and photo editors.

We're not focused on the past, we have our sites set on the future.

So if you are inclined to swing for the fences, have a passion for the craft of interactive design and development, and want to make sites (yes, and widgets) that real people would actually want to to USE, we could use your help. We're not sure how we are getting along without you, in fact.

On the left you'll see a list of open positions. Check them out. Even if you yourself may not be on the market, please send a juicy one on to your friends. They will some day thank you.

Resumes may be sent to our Creative Operations head, Lara Rodriguez (Lara.Rodriguez@corp.aol.com) as well as the discipline lead on the job posting itself.

Are you a UI Designer?

Do you obsess over error rates?
Do you secretly count the number of times you are forced to go from keyboard to mouse?
Have you ever created a task flow to streamline your morning routine? ("Oh, coffee comes after I let the dog out...")

Then let's talk.

AOL's Experience Design Group is looking for a UI designer with a decidedly human-factors bent to join our New York team. If you are the UI star we seek, you will join a team of exceptional designers that strive to create perfection in even the smallest user-interaction. You will specifically create real impact on the bottom line for the AOL Programming organization by streamlining our publishing workflow and dramatically improving the usability of internal tools.

A little more about you:
You are an expert at creating task flows and reshaping those flows and the products behind them for optimal human performance and great task–completion times. You will be a champion of user experience, usability best practices and standards. You believe in getting the product right for the people who will be using it, and love to slash features that get in their way. You will work with product groups to shape product requirements and then transform those requirements into concrete wireframes and functional specifications. You love teams and collaboration. Tight deadlines don't ruffle your feathers. You thrive on working with the industry's top design and development talent, and embrace good ideas regardless of their origin.

On your resume we will see things like:
  • Identifies, addresses and solves complex user interface and information design problems by providing multiple viable solutions.
  • Possesses expert diagramming and screen layout skills and creates hi-level concept maps, navigation maps, task flows and wire frames.
  • Collaborates with other disciplines to define the vision and requirements for a product or programming area.
  • Possesses thorough understanding of industry standard applications/technologies such as HTML, CSS, AJAX, Flash and Publishing Systems.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in industry standard UI software such as Adobe Illustrator, Visio, Omni Graffle, Photoshop, InDesign and Acrobat.
  • Reviews competing products and recommends design solutions that differentiate the company's products from those of competitors.
  • Works with business owners, producers, technology personnel, designers and researchers on specific projects to create final interface features.
  • May develop user profiles, with emphasis on human error control, display issues, visual interaction, physical manipulation, and task and objective analyses.

Education/Experience:
Directly related experience in designing online and software product interfaces, be they consumer facing or internal company tools. The level of design position you qualify for will of course be influenced by the years of experience and education you have. EOE.

Please note that this is not a graphic design position. Photoshop designs do not meet the requirements listed above. All applicants must be able to show samples of user interface diagrams, wireframes, specifications or flows.

Interested UI Designers should submit their resume/portfolio to:
