Senior Software Engineer, AOL
AOL is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our NY team. This is a full-time staff position, offering Time Warner's full benefits package.
Candidates should have approximately 4-6 years of software development experience and be fluent in Java and enterprise web development.
Technical Excellence
• Uses knowledge associated with undergraduate degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Possesses approximately 4-6 years directly related experience
• Understands and effectively uses AOL technical tools, applications, and Procedures
• Understand relationships among and across software components
• May be required to program in multiple platforms
• Fluent in applicable programming language(s)
• Conveys fundamental aspects of job through verbal\ and written communications
• Designs, develops, troubleshoots, debugs and implements software for a component of the system design
Technical Skills
• Required- 4-6 years core Java experience including Servlet/JSP
• Required- 2-3 years web development experience with Java
• Required- 2-3 years XML, web services
• Required- 2-3 years SQL/Database experience
• Strong understanding of design patterns (MVC, Singleton, Factory, etc)
• Working knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, CSS
• Familiar with at least one major Java framework (Spring, Struts, etc)
• Familiar with large scale applications, particularly web applications
• Familiar with ESB and ETL applications (experience with Mule or OpenESB a plus)
Creativity
• Solves moderately complicated problems requiring some independent thinking
• Possesses excellent knowledge of information architecture, user interface essentials, interaction design, style guide creation, and motion design.
• Demonstrates ability to articulate design concepts to a broad audience including non-designers.
• Questions problem definition and reframes questions/problems to address the underlying issues.
• Constructively challenges current practices or approaches.
• Possess the ability to "think outside of the box" in order to provide high level client service.
• Originates new concepts, strategies, or innovative approaches that have significant impact on the company.

• Serves as an individual contributor and team member
• Understands own team's strategy and objectives
• Able to function self-sufficiently, but accepts guidance from peers and senior staff
